POKOTABI / Tombo
とんぼ
Tombo is an izakaya in Nagaokakyo, Kyoto Prefecture, serving hearty daytime set meals with refillable rice and a drink bar, followed by evening drinks paired with doteyaki and grilled fish.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Located in Kaide, Nagaokakyo, Tombo is an adaptable izakaya that shifts gears smoothly between day and night. On weekday lunchtimes, the kitchen rolls out satisfying teishoku set meals ranging from a daily special to grilled fish, yakiniku grilled beef, fried yakisoba noodles, and fresh sashimi. Each lunchtime set includes free rice refills and an all-you-can-drink soft drink bar, making it a reliable stop when you need a hearty meal to power through the afternoon.
Come evening, the izakaya menu turns toward drinks and savory accompaniments. Diners can linger over slow-simmered doteyaki beef tendon, home-style hamburg steaks, and jumbo fried prawns, or opt for simple grilled fish such as salted mackerel, pacific saury, and shishamo smelt. The bar selection is equally broad, featuring Kakubin and Jim Beam highballs, various sour cocktails, fruit liqueurs like Tsugaru apple and Kyoho grape, and half-bottles of Kyoto's own Tamba wine.
The dining area is arranged with counter seats and standard tables, along with a tatami seating area at the back fitted with tables and low chairs. Whether you are dropping in alone for a casual drink or reserving a spot for a group gathering or party, the venue accommodates a wide variety of occasions.
